
I chose the objects for this still life because
of the complementary colors blue and orange.


Step1--Drawing....nothing fancy or detailed, just a pleasing arrangement of shapes.

Step2--Find and lay in the big shape of the darkest darks.

Step3-- Lay in the big shape of the mid tones seeking the relative differences in tone,intensity and temperature. I also put in a stroke of the lightest light as a reference to help see the relative differences in value.
Step4-- Lay in the big shape of the lighest areas of the painting, noting the relative differences in tone, intensity and temperature. I am not painting "things", just the big shapes of light, midtone and darks that the light makes over the whole scene.
